I went to school with Jimmy and randomly we were both travelling in Southeast Asia in 2008, so when we met he and his lovely girlfriend, Kelly, were quick to introduce me to Spicythai. In my second week of travelling I came up to Chiang Mai intending to stay for 4/5 days, instead I stayed for over 2 weeks! After that I made my way to Spicylaos and ended up working there with the lovely Pong.
I had such an awesome time in Chiang Mai and Luang Prabang – Pong and Noom were great fun, easy to talk to and full of lots of local knowledge. They make a lot of effort to bring the backpackers together and show them a good time.
A few months later, at the end of my trip I decided I needed to see my friends Noon, Saow and Pong again so I made the trip back up to Chiang Mai to stay and work for a bit. There I met a great group of backpackers who convinced me to go to Laos, and so off I went back to Luang Prabang!
In 2010 I decided to carry out my Masters degree fieldwork in Luang Prabang, so with my cousin Georgina in tow, I headed back to Southeast Asia. Firstly we travelled to Chiang Mai and there on the second night I met the love of my life at Spicythai – I have been with Raj ever since!
Georgina and I travelled on to Spicylaos where we lived for nearly a month working with Pong and the family – the chilled-out vibe of Luang Prabang is awesome!
Spicy will always have a special place in my heart and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the Spicy Empire shapes up. |
